Laurent Betremieux
At the edge of wood

The paintings and drawings of Laurent Betremieux reinvest the theme of the forest, a symbolic subject, source of creative and destructive energy…a place of life and freedom. Laurent Betremieux perceive the forest as a metaphor of the psyche. The soul and the conscience of every human being go up and down the forest over the course of the light’s games and furtive apparitions. The one whose goes there will unexpectedly find fleeting presences, under nymph shapes, fairies living in this imaginary world. Those lands look familiar to us. As a cineast using collages like a countershot, Laurent Bertremieux takes us to his canvas, where, sometimes the actors that we are disappear or re-emerge. In his drawings and even more in his paintings made of chinese ink, the tree dominate as the beginning of every single thing in its more vital expression. He shows us the way, takes us back to our origins by linking us to it.
