Manfred Mohr @ [un]expected. The art of chance, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart

09/24/2016

Chance defies all determination – and yet art uses calculated chance as a creative force. In the past century artists have developed varied methods and processes to trigger chance and make the »[un]expected« visible within fixed parameters. With around 120 works, the large special exhibition shows for the first time how experimentally or systematically artists have dealt with the element of chance. Along with highlighting chance in art, the exhibition is also draws attention to chance in music, such as in the work of John Cage, as well as in literature.
