Twenty years of artistic practice have led Dominique Albertelli to a body of work of great complexity, one that refuses to be confined to a simple definition. Between the figurative and the abstract, the human and the animal, the intimate and the social, her works occupy borderlands that few artists dare to explore with such candour. The critical introspection that nourishes her approach is not a mere plunge into the self: it is an attempt to understand how the subject is constituted through contact with others, how identity is forged in the gaze of the other and in the friction of human relationships.

Her figures — often female, sometimes hybrid, sometimes on the verge of dissolution — embody this complexity with a sincerity that can disturb as much as it fascinates. This second exhibition at Galerie Charlot bears witness to a significant development in the artist’s work: the forms have tightened, the palette has deepened and the message has been refined. Albertelli here confirms an artistic voice that does not seek to please, but to speak the truth — which is, ultimately, the only artistic ambition truly worth having.

As a visual artist for 20 years, I have been questioning the human being in all its complexity. My work proceeds, among other things, through critical introspection and an analysis of human relationships.

Between the human and the animal, between the figurative and the abstract, my works escape traditional representations and manage to reconcile these seemingly contradictory positions.
