In Michel Cleempoel's output, time is not a formal constraint but the very subject of the work. The artist uses digital tools not to accelerate creation but to slow it down, to work at the speed of memory and reminiscence. His images emerge slowly, like photographs in a darkroom, giving the gaze time to adjust and deepen.

Light, omnipresent in his work, is never captured in its fullness but always in its deferred effects: the shadow it casts, the halo it leaves on the retina, the trace it imprints on surfaces. Cleempoel develops a poetics of the imprint — the mark that things leave on the world, and that the world leaves on us. By playing on the paradoxes between the digital instant and contemplative duration, between the infinite multiplication of data and the singularity of the gaze, he creates works that resist rapid consumption and demand sustained attention.

A digital artist, Michel Cleempoel develops a body of work that questions the world and its appearance, with time and light as its main elements. His reflection on these two parameters gives rise to work on shadow and on the imprint made of memories and reminiscences. Through the use of new technologies, the artist enjoys playing with paradoxes. Setting ephemeral, elusive moments against the multiplication and rapid transmission of data, he creates images that favour a slow, contemplative gaze.
