Experimental video · Generative art · Digital photography · Installation · Net art
Jacques Perconte has built an artistic practice rooted primarily in digital tools. Since he is intimately familiar with the machine, he challenges it, pushes it to its limits, thinks through its shortcomings, and creates based on its errors. From films to photographs, and from online creations to installations, Jacques Perconte produces vibrant digital pictorial material, questioning space, color, landscape, and society.
Although recognized as one of the French pioneers of internet art, he is above all one of the very first to have worked with video through codecs (working on compression and decompression) and to have given digital media a new pictorial dimension. "After drawing, I discovered painting, then video, computing, and networks. I dove into the digital world in 1995."
Founder of the "metamorph" research group, member of the international Rhizome community since 1998, and founding member of the "paradoxal" association and the first decentralized French net art collective, "lieudit."
