Installation · Machines · Electronics · Software · Ink on paper
Before devoting herself to art, Liat Segal pursued a career in technology, notably as a researcher at Microsoft. Information, software, electronics and mechanics are her materials: her machines write, draw or engrave, turning streams of data into tangible traces.
From “This Is Not A Typewriter” to “Random Walk”, whose random ink trail was selected for the 2020 Japan Media Arts Festival, her work questions intimacy and alienation, privacy and overexposure, the original and the copy. “FOMO”, commissioned by the Petach Tikva Museum of Art, was shortlisted for the 2020 Lumen Prize, and “Impossible Object”, created with Yasmine Meroz, travelled to the International Space Station in 2022. She has exhibited at the Design Museum Holon, the Cluj Ceramics Biennale, the Zero1 festival in La Rochelle and the Wende Museum in California. She presented OUTPUT at the gallery in Tel Aviv in 2019, followed by ORIGIN’ELLE and COLOURFUL HORIZON in Paris in 2021.
