Immersive installation · 4K video · Digital sculpture · Generative art · Audiovisual performance
Quayola uses technology as a lens to explore the tensions and balances between seemingly opposing forces: the real and the artificial, the figurative and the abstract, and the old and the new. By constructing immersive installations, often in historically significant architectural sites, he utilizes and reimagines classical iconography through contemporary technology. Hellenistic sculpture, Old Master painting, and Baroque architecture serve as the historical aesthetic starting points for his abstract compositions. His diverse practice, entirely derived from custom software developed by the artist, also includes audiovisual performance, video, sculpture, and works on paper.
Past exhibitions include the V&A Museum (London), Park Avenue Armory (New York), Bozar (Brussels), National Art Center (Tokyo), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (Barcelona), Ars Electronica (Linz), Sónar Festival (Barcelona), and the Sundance Film Festival. In 2013, Quayola received the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica.
