Collage · Photomontage · Painting on printed image · Gouache · Pigment print
Yael Burstein builds her work from existing images – magazine pages, photographic prints – which she cuts up, assembles and covers with oil paint, gouache or glitter. Collages, montages and pigment prints form a vocabulary in which figures, masks, interiors and fragments of urban landscapes are recomposed.
Her series play on the layering of images and of time: writing about the exhibition ARCHEONAUTS, the press highlighted her “archaeological” gaze on timelines. Her painted interventions on printed images blur the line between photography, painting and the found object.
Her work has been shown at Inga Gallery, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. A recipient of grants from the Clore Foundation and the Sandberg fund, she has exhibited with Galerie Charlot in ARCHEONAUTS (2017), ORIGIN’ELLE (2021), at Paris Photo 2021 and in ESPRIT DES FORÊTS (2025).
