François Zajéga

An artist and researcher in digital arts, François Zajéga occupies a singular place in the landscape of French generative art. His work is based on writing computer programs conceived not as tools but as fully fledged systems of expression. The algorithms he develops generate images, structures and dynamics that the artist controls only upstream: once launched, the process follows its own logic, its own duration. “Généalogie” explores relationships of generation and filiation between forms, while “Territoires” maps abstract spaces in constant recomposition.

Infinite by nature, these two works never repeat themselves: each instant produces a new configuration, each viewing is unique. Zajéga follows in the footsteps of the pioneers of generative art — Vera Molnár, Manfred Mohr, Harold Cohen — while developing a visual and conceptual language of his own, informed by the theoretical contributions of complexity and self-organisation. His exhibition at Galerie Charlot marks an important step in the recognition of this practice in France, affirming that code can be, in its own right, a demanding and poetic artistic medium.

Exhibition featuring generative digital artworks by François Zajéga at Galerie Charlot. The artist presents two main pieces: 'Généalogie' and 'Territoires,' both created using computer algorithms and specific algorithmic processes. These infinite generative works represent contemporary digital art exploring algorithmic creation.
