Drawing · Generative art · Video · Interactive installation
Trained in computer graphics and drawing, François Zajéga first worked as a web designer before joining the Numédiart Institute at the University of Mons as a researcher in video processing and human–computer interaction. He went on to teach in the digital arts department of Arts², the Mons school of arts.
A draughtsman of long standing, he has seen his work shift gradually towards abstraction and non-figuration, arriving at generative forms in which code becomes a drawing tool. He develops his own tools – including the game engine POLYMORPH – almost exclusively with free software, and explores the relationship between human and machine, as in TANUKIS, a study of emotional attachment to a virtual avatar developed during a residency at iMAL (Brussels). Co-founder of the Blender-Brussels workshops, he presents his work at international festivals. Galerie Charlot has devoted several solo exhibitions to him (2011, 2012, and MATIÈRE I PLAN I SPACE in 2015) and has shown his work in MIXED MEDIA (2013), at Slick and at the Variation Paris Media Art Fair.
